Do Breast Reduction Exercises Work?

Like breast augmentation exercises, breast reduction exercises do not actually reduce the size of the breast. Rather, exercise changes the size and shape of the breast, so that large breasts can be made to look better – higher and firmer – but not smaller.

Women who want a non-surgical alternative to breast enhancement are often told to perform certain exercises that shape and enhance the body generally so that everything, including the breasts, look better. Women are less often told, but usually know, that if they gain weight, chances are their breasts will get bigger. The same basic principles are true for reduction: exercise can make all of you, including your breasts look better; and weight loss can reduce the size of your breasts along with the rest of you.

Unlike for breast enhancement, there are no specific exercises to reduce the size or minimize the appearance of your breasts. However, any exercise and diet regimen designed to make you lose fat should do the trick. Breasts are mostly fat, and since the body loses fat from all over, you should lose fat from your breasts, too, thereby decreasing their size.

One thing to be wary of when losing significant amounts of weight, whether your goal is to reduce the size of your breasts or not, is that weight loss can make breasts smaller, but not necessarily more attractive. Breasts can lose size with weight loss as small as 10 or 15 pounds, and at that amount, your breasts should retain an attractive size and shape. Any more weight loss and your breasts will probably sag and appear slack and flabby. One way to minimize this effect is to work breast enhancement exercises into your breast reduction regimen. Weight training, particularly of your pectoral muscles, will tone and firm the muscles beneath your breasts, causing them to appear higher and firmer. They may also appear fuller, which is good for breasts that have lost significant volume. Applying a regular dose of heavy moisturizer during weight loss may also help maintain the appearance of the breasts.

Sometimes, however, all the weight loss and breast reduction exercises in the world will not reduce the size of your breasts. Some women have large breasts no matter what amount of fat they carry on the rest of their bodies. Chances are, these women have breasts with a lot of glandular tissue. In this situation, the only way to reduce the size of the breast is with surgery – there are no breast reduction exercises that will work.
