Breast Enhancement is a surgical procedure that is mean to improve the size and shape of a woman’s breasts to attain a desired appearance/look.

Breast Enhancement is among the popular plastic surgery procedures with the highest patient satisfaction ratings and can be performed as a day case procedure, with the patient going home on the same day. Breast Enhancement usually takes about an hour to an hour and a half to perform.

Breast Enhancement stretches tissues, and is quite painful. It is also especially painful when the breast implants are positioned under the muscle. It also going to be more painful if the procedure was done on young women who do not have children. While it is thought that a woman’s breasts keep growing into their mid-twenties, there has been an increase in Breast Enhancement procedures performed on teenagers. While the incidence of plastic surgery in teenagers today is still quite small, it is however a growing segment of a huge number of plastic surgery patients.

Breast Enhancement involves the insertion of a breast implant, and the two common types are silicon breast implants or saline implants. The choice between what implant to use is decided by both patient and her doctor, after appropriate consultation.

Silicone liquid is not at all pleasant when it comes in contact with human tissue like in cases of a leak, scar tissue forms around it and it becomes a hard lump. While the use of silicone has raised concerns, there is no scientific evidence indicating that you can get poisoned by silicone. Some studies show that it is not a cause of breast cancer, as the incidence of breast cancer is actually lower in women with breast implants than those without. The danger is when a silicone implant breaks and will leak out into the body. This is a major medical problem and the patient will feel a lot of pain when this happens.

While silicone and saline implants appear the same, silicone implants feel more natural. Silicon implants also last longer, have a lower chance of evident rippling, and is hardly felt by the woman with the implant.

Silicone breast implants provide a more natural look and feel, which is very important to women who have a modest amount of breast tissue. Although all women would like to haveusually achieve this with saline implants.

Breast Enhancement is done while the patient is asleep and under general anesthetic. After the incisions are made, the breast tissue is lifted and the implant inserted. Incisions are made in one of three locations: Under the nipple, under the breast or in the underarm, these are in the most inconspicuous areas possible to avoid visible scarring. The ideal area for the incision however is depends on the woman’s body and breast shape. Choosing between placing the breast implant underneath the muscle tissue or directly under the breast tissue, is another important decision a woman needs to make after thorough consultation with her surgeon.

Those women who opted to placing of the implant under the muscle are going feel a bit more pain in the few days after the surgery. Placement directly under the breast tissue although painful as well, will not be as extreme.

With the rise in popularity of Breast Enhancement and the procedure becoming more affordable to many, Breast Enhancement has become quite a fad. Many patients view Breast Enhancement as a means to extend youth and beauty; on the other hand there are also many who view this as a means to finally end a prolonged bout of of low self-esteem. Regardless what reasons there may be for a woman to consider the Breast Enhancement , this has to be done only after proper consultation with the right plastic surgeon.
